Middle school program
Starting high school is an exciting milestone for students and families. Moving from Year 6 to Year 7 can feel like a big change. We help every child feel confident and supported during the transition to high school.
Find out more in the Getting ready for high school guide.
We work closely with our partner high school, Tumut High School, to deliver a comprehensive Year 6 to Year 7 transition program.
This program helps your child feel more confident and prepared by familiarising them with a high school environment, teachers, and routines. It also supports their social and academic development, making the move smoother and setting them up for success in their new school.
From Term 2, our students visit Tumut HS each fortnight for 2 hours to engage in a variety of experiences, including visiting different learning spaces, meeting a range of teachers and exploring the ag farm. During the first hour of our visit, students engage in a learning task delivered by our experienced Stage 3 teachers. This eases the transition process and allows high school staff to build relationships with your child as they learn.

"The things that I have enjoyed about the middle school program was doing agriculture and being able to hold the animals. I liked learning my way around the school and learning about the teachers. I really loved being with all of my friends and doing lots of activities with everyone. I’m looking forward to going to Tumut High!”

Getting ready at home
You can help your child prepare by:
- talking positively about starting high school
- buying uniforms, shoes, stationery and school supplies
- checking if a laptop or device is needed
- practising their travel route to school
- making sure they know your phone number and emergency contacts
- encouraging routines such as packing their school bag
- encouraging them to check their timetable and school bell times the night before day 1 of Term 1.
For more advice, see the Getting ready for high school guide.
"I have enjoyed all the memories I have made in this wonderful environment and all the amazing friends I've made along the way!”
