Over 160 years of education

Tumut Public School has a rich history of educating the young people of Tumut since 1859. The school first began in a small building on the corner of Fitzroy and Richmond Street opposite the Tumut Swimming Pool. As numbers grew, the school was moved to its present site in 1913. The original building still stands today and many original features can still be found around the school, including the two original school bells.

A year at our school

Boys and girls basketball teams ready for State Basketball Championships.

Our boys and girls basketball teams were named Riverina Champions. Both teams competed at the NSWPSSA State Championships in October.

Open classrooms are held every term and give our families an opportunity to visit learning spaces, experience children's learning firthand and celebrate their achievements.

Our Year 6 students enjoy engaging with the local high school as part of the Middle School Program. This program supports our students to feel confident as they transition to high school. This program is available to all Year 6 students regardless of the high school they choose to attend.

Our senior school leaders take time each term to visit the local community pantry, volunteering their time to give back to our community.

The swimming carnival is always a big highlight of the school year. The first big event on the sporting calendar sees lots of cheering from our students and displays of athletic ability and sportsmanship.

Our school again hosted the Tumut Zone Chess competition, where our students got to test their strategic thinking skills against students from across our area. Our students also engaged in an in-school chess competition during lunchtime.

Our Year 5 and 6 students have the opportunity to engage in debating. They debate other schools in our area on a range of topics, taking either the affirmative or negative stance. Mrs Drury helps our students hone the art of persuasive arguments and debating skills.

All students were given the opportunity to participate in Gymnastics lessons. Our students loved learning new skills on the floor, beam, bars and trampolines.

Our students enjoy attending the Book Fair every year. Our Teacher Librarian does a wonderful job of making the space inviting and engaging for the students. This years theme was 'Book an adventure'.

Each year, our Stage 3 students embark on an exciting adventure to Selwyn Snow Resort, situated in the northernmost part of the Snowy Mountains. This fun-filled day offers students of all ski abilities the chance to enjoy the slopes, build confidence, and create lasting memories in a beautiful alpine setting. It’s an experience that combines outdoor activity, skill development, and plenty of fun!
